Its steep streets will exhaust even the fittest of visitors! Nevertheless, the marvellous views of the Valdichiana are well worth the climb. The town is also well know for its Vino Nobile.
It was a fort of Etruscan origin and in Medieval times Florence and Siena fought for rule. In the end Florence won and took control. The Florentines encouraged artistic development and commissioned artists to give the town a new style, in accordance with the Renaissance flourishing in Florence. The result is a blend of Gothic and Renaissance.
