Where to Eat and Drink

Piccolo Principe is a highly recommended restaurant focusing on elegant, contemporary cuisine. Some specialities are scaloppa di foie gras con gamberi in pasta croccante and mela candita e rapa bianca (tel. 0584 4011; www.principedipiemonte.com; Piazza Puccini 1, closed 3rd-17th Nov and Mon).

Romano specializes in seafood and meat dishes. Everything is prepared as fresh as can be with the catch of the day. You cannot leave Viareggio without trying its fusilloni con triglia, gallinella e scorfano (tel. 0584 31382; www.romanoristorante.it; Via Mazzini 120; closed Jan and Mon, Tue midday also Jul-Sep).

Il Puntodivino prepares seafood dishes accompanied with local wines. It also has a wine bar. In July and August it is only open for dinner (tel. 0584 31046; www.ilpuntodivino.com; Via Mazzini 229; closed Mon Sep- June).

Da Giorgio also serves seafood. The dining room is decorated with dedications and pictures (tel. 0584 44493; Via Zanardelli 71; closed 24th Dec- 5th Jan and 10th-20th October).

Cabreo varies its menu depending on the catch of the day (tel. 0584 54643; Via Firenze 14; closed Nov and Mon).

La Terraza serves traditional dishes which can be enjoyed accompanied by beautiful views from the restaurant (tel. 0584 44449; www.plazaederussie.com; Piazza d'Azeglio 1; closed for a fortnight in Nov).
